Women Looking Forward to Change

Equal society for all irrespective of any differences of gender, caste, economic or social status

We are committed to raising a voice for women’s rights as enshrined in the Constitution of India and in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights while maintaining the core part of our ethos which is cultivating young leadership through working with adolescent girls.

Social Transformation through Collective Action

We, Mahila Jan Adikar Samiti (MJAS), work towards uniting and empowering women in Ajmer, Rajasthan through collective action for social transformation. We are working to address the vicious cycle of poverty, patriarchy and ignorance that results in exclusion of women from social, political and economic spheres. We provide a space for everyone to come together and fight for gender equality and justice. We build confidence and self-sufficiency among girls and women through our various skill-based programmes and organising women’s groups at the village and community level.

Our Vision:

We believe in a world of equal rights, dignity and freedom to the grassroots of rural Rajasthan. In our quest to fulfil our dream, we have adopted contemporary models and techniques that are resonant with the times and hence computer literacy and sports finds equal space in our work culture along with issues of dealing with patriarchy and prejudice. Although MJAS was formally set up in 2000, but we have been working on these problems much before it was formalised as an organisation

Our Mission:

We stand for uniting and empowering women across all spaces and specifically brings together young women, children and youth from marginalised sectors of the society through collective action aimed at social transformation. By 2025, our aim is to prepare and unite 3,000 women, girls and youth to be able to defend their own civil rights and actively work on social issues to visibly improve the conditions of the marginalized and disadvantaged groups. As part of our vision, at least 200 young girls will be encouraged to take up leadership roles in their area of interest.

Our Strategies:
As part of our work ethos, we believe in partnering with and contributing to various other platforms working in the field of human rights and development so that sustainable and collective empowerment goals could be reached. So, in addition to providing assistance in individual cases of violence, desertion, prejudicial social practices, caste based discrimination and land related issues, MJAS has aligned itself with the concerns of the overall women’s movement in Rajasthan since the 1990’s. Our organisation also networks with other organisations at the local, state and national levels to enhance their mobilisation and outreach activities to change social norms and practices. Our principle strategies for success are
