Develop Solutions against Violence and Exploitation
In 2013-14, MJAS implemented a project to develop mechanisms consisting of community leaders and panchayat institutions in order to develop long-term solutions to cases of violence and exploitation of women.
The main activities of the project were as follows:
Provide an archive for reference for future cases
Identify the appointed intervention in cases of violence against women
Strengthen the Gram Panchayat by raising their awareness and creating a more just and fair system for the long term resolution of cases
Strengthen organisation and leadership of women in villages to handle cases of violence against women
Analyse the victims’ situations and connect them to various government schemes and benefits such as pension schemes, palanhar yojana, ration cards, job cards and in etc
Investigate individual cases of domestic violence and provide legal aid through District Legal Aid Authority and follow up of police records for each of the cases. Twenty-five cases of domestic violence were investigated with follow up during the project period
Document and track cases handled during the implementation of the project primarily by community leaders such as elected women representatives (EWRs), ASHA sahyoginis and Anganwadi workers
Develop a district-level task force of experienced people who could participate in immediate investigation of cases
Work in collaboration with different government departments such as the Department of Women and Child Development, Department for Social Justice and Empowerment and District Legal Aid Authority to redress cases of domestic and other forms of violence against women
